Sworn: Global demise

02/12/04  ||  Lord K Philipson

Naming the demo something so similar to Global Domination should collect some bonus points…

So, some Swedish band I never heard of (and most probably no one else either) decided to snail-mail over some demo they recorded last year. Good for them, a feature at GD might be exactly what you need for further recognition (aka torture).

Well, these guys formed in February, some member joined in September, another joined in October and in November (2004 goes for all of the months mentioned, zit-infested cunts) they decided they were ready to record this very piece that I have been given. Well, I don’t know if the studio in question was all that ready for these guys’ visit, but it sure sounds “demo”. Let’s just hope that’s what they were after.

Fuck that for now and let’s talk about the actual music for a change, it’s not like we do that alot around these parts as it’s more fun to bash people’s looks and all you know. But I didn’t get a photo of them so…

Sword/Scorge/Forge/Sås/Scones/Svål, whatever their name was, plays some… ehum… death metal I guess. There’s some fairly tight semi-blasts here and there, while some fills sound… not as tight. We have the heavy passages and the tad faster bits here and there. Those screamier vocals ain’t nothing I wanna marry, but they work. Nothing more, nothing less. The guitars are decent as well and so is the bass (yes, I can hear it). Nothing too fucken untight overall and it’s ok stuff, if you take it for what it is: A fucken demo. In 20 years they might be ready for an album, you never know.

I get the feeling these guys aren’t perhaps the fucken oldest bunch of them all and in time they might become the new virtuosos of death metal though this CDR isn’t exactly showing any hints of that. When it comes to death metal (or whatever the fuck they are playing), I have heard far worse than this, counting demos AND albums, this piece ends up somewhere in average-land, with a perhaps-ticket to a-bit-better-than-average-land in some years.

Have in mind, this is their first demo and I’m sure they’ll do better on their next as they are showing some decent shit here and there as far as the material goes.

Contact them at sworn666@hotmail.com and tell them you want to blow them/hear their shit.
